MISSION STATEMENT

The Pit bull is probably the most discriminated animal on earth and perhaps in the history of all mankind. Based on massive misinformation and media hysteria, we believe that Pit bulls have been cheated out of their full potential because of negative stereotypes due to irresponsible owners. Our goal is to promote Pit bulls in a positive light and help the public gain acceptance through education. By this we hope to help dissolve the negative stereotype of Pit bull perception.  We strongly advocate responsible pet ownership. To own a Pit bull, you should be an experienced dog owner and natural leader, raising a bully requires a confident, calm and assertive mind.  People looking to own a Pit bull need to be willing to educate themselves.  They need to be the kind of people who will listen to the advice of the breeder and other responsible owners of Pit bulls.  Puppies should be socialized at an early age with all ages of people and other dogs and be trained with kindness, consistency and patience.  Contrary to public belief, Pit bulls are not vicious and mean, they actually make great family dogs, they are strong and athletic and very tolerant of young children. A well-bred Pit bull is a family guardian and protector, an even-tempered dog that complains little. The breed is very submissive, intelligent and always willing  to please it’s owner which makes the Pit bull very easy to train. Those who have Pit bulls as part of their families know the true good nature of these dogs.  As with all breeds, the Pit bull has positive and negative traits in their temperament. Their breed history has led to a dog unlike any other in the history of purebred dogs. Much of a dog's temperament relates to its breed history and genetic inheritance. It’s common knowledge that the Pit bull breed was developed for blood sports: Bull baiting, bear baiting, and later, dog fighting. Pit bull owners have to be extra aware 24/7, period. You need to be able to read canine body language and recognize signs of tension between dogs. You need to be prepared to separate the dogs if tensions develop. A well raised Pit bull of proper temperament is the most loyal and loving dog in the world, bar none. This is a dog that really loves people, especially children. Thousands of responsible owners have dedicated themselves to this breed for it's positive traits and willingly deal with the negatives.  Many  Pit bull owner’s will tell you that after owning one, they will never own any other breed. We here at Kosa Nostra  believe that by educating the public on the true nature of these dogs,  we can make a difference in the way people feel about the Pit bull and other bully breeds and better help their future.  We cannot change the history of the breed. We can however change the future. History shows us where we, as people, have made grave mistakes in judgment and where we’ve also made progress and learned from our mistakes. I am grateful of my breeds history, the sheer strength, bravery and loyalty of this dog is legendary. It has helped shape them into the greatest dogs known to man. The Pit bull's survival depends on new owners knowing what they are getting into, and ALL owners being responsible and protecting the breed's reputation.  With that said, if we don’t all take an active part in doing this, we may actually see a ban on this breed in our lifetime.

Get Involved and Make a Difference

Here's a few organizations we support and would like to invite you to take a further look at too. They are doing great things for the breed, but they still need our support.

  • BADrap.org - Bay Area Dog Lovers Responsible About Pit Bulls. A wonderful rescue organization out in California. They do wonders for the breed and we support their efforts as well.

  • PBRC - Pit Bull Rescue Central. Needless to say this site has had and is still having a major impact on the breeds dilemma. Helping thousands of dogs find homes, educating the public and owners alike, and striving to bring the Pit Bull out of the horrible state it's in now, PBRC is one outstanding web site.
